Sustainable mission
Producing products with respect for people and planet is an important part of Verbatier's corporate values. Verbatier is committed to establish a culture of respect for internationally recognized principles and guidelines which include the International Bill of Human Rights (i.e. the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights), the International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. On top of that we are committed to reducing our business impact on the environment This includes minimizing the environmental impact of our operations, transport and distribution and creating awareness among our customers and wider network.
We have seven environmental focus areas which guide our approach to both our business operations and our supply chain:
Responsible sourcing
We will aim to buy materials and products from sustainable and traceable sources in our supply chain and we always consider the environmental impact of materials and products in the procurement of goods and services for our business operations.
Chemicals and Pollution Management
We will work with our supply chain to achieve zero use and discharge of substances deemed to be hazardous.
Resources and waste
We will focus on reducing the amount of non-renewable material in our products, use compostable packaging, raise awareness in our network of textile waste and allign our operations and marketing on recycling.
Energy efficiency and greenhouse gases
We will seek to improve the energy efficiency and reduce gas emissions within our supply chain to achieve energy efficiency improvements. We also plant a tree for every purchase made by our customer to offset carbon and reducing the effect of climate change.
Water efficiency and conservation
We will work with our supply chain to improve water efficiency in agricultural and manufacturing processes as well as operating efficiently in our own business operations. By planting trees we also play our part in capturing rainwater and reducing risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides.
Animal welfare and biodiversity
We will work with our supply chain to respect the humane treatment of animals in the production of our products and will seek opportunities to enhance biodiversity in our business operations. by planting trees we play a role in giving sanctuary to hundreds of species of insects, fungi, moss, mammals and plants.
Warranty information
All Verbatier products are made with quality materials and craftsmanship, and we stand behind each one. For the lifetime of the product, all Verbatier products are fully warrantied to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship. Which means for how long the product is worn by the first person who bought it.
Recycling policy
92 million tonnes of textile waste is discarded every year. It is reported that the average consumer throws away 37kg of clothing every year! 50% of it never being worn.
Yet globally over 1 billion people each year go without adequate shoes or clothing.
We believe that adequate clothing is not a privilege but a right of all people, which is why we want to ensure that no one in our communities go without.
We want to encourage all of our customers to think twice before discarding their pre-loved items, and instead donate them locally to organizations that aim to serve their communities and the people who shape them.
When a customer posts a picture of their donation on social media with the hashtag #verbatierrecycles, they receive 10% discount on the entire next purchase. When people DM us a photo of their donation (or receipt) they receive 5% of their entire next purchase in our store.
